These Zulu straps are crafted from a single piece of saddle grade leather, the straps boast a robust design with chunkier, rounded keepers and buckles compared to NATO straps, this sets them apart from other military-style counterparts.

The Zulu strap design design evokes a sense of historical association. Inspired by traditional pre-NATO strap options, the Zulu strap represents a modern iteration of the timeless fabric strap design and these high quality saddle leather straps are very popular with both private buyers and a wide range of military and law enforcement buyers.

A lot of buyers ask us what the primary differences are between NATO and Zulu straps, essentially, the main differences lie in the the buckles and keepers; Zulu straps have much rounder and thicker buckles, whereas the NATO has thinner and more rectangular buckles, the other difference is that NATO straps have an additional strap that slides through 2 buckles, this means that you end up with two layers of leather under the watch, instead of one with a Zulu so, with a Zulu strap, the watch will not sit so high as it would with a NATO strap.

As far as Saddle leather straps and regular leather straps are concerned the main difference is that saddle leather is an elite form of leather which still finds its primary application within the equestrian realm, notably for crafting horse saddles and related tack. Derived from the hides of either cows or horses, it undergoes meticulous tanning and finishing processes to yield a robust and enduring material.

While not scarce, saddle leather commands a premium status owing to its exceptional quality. It remains a prized resource, valued for its resilience and longevity. The craftsmanship involved, alongside its inherent characteristics, contribute to its higher cost compared to alternative leather types.

Renowned for its durability, strength, and water resistance, saddle leather possesses an unmistakable aesthetic charm, further elevating its desirability in the equestrian domain and as well as for high end watch straps. Its unique blend of traits renders it indispensable for applications requiring specific performance attributes, thereby justifying its elevated price point in the market.

When considering saddle leather, several defining characteristics set it apart from other leather varieties:

  1. Strength: Renowned for its robustness, saddle leather can withstand heavy usage without succumbing to stretching, cracking, or breaking, ensuring longevity and reliability.

  2. Water Resistance: Its inherent water-resistant nature ensures it remains dry and well-maintained even when exposed to the elements, a crucial trait for leather products such as watch straps.

  3. Resistance to Wear and Tear: The combination of durability and strength equips saddle leather to endure rigorous usage, rendering it highly resistant to signs of wear and tear over time.

  4. Distinctive Patterns and Marks: Through meticulous tanning and finishing processes, saddle leather acquires unique patterns and marks endowing each strap with an unmistakable and unique aesthetic appeal.

  5. Flexibility: Despite its robustness, saddle leather exhibits remarkable flexibility, effortlessly conforming to the contour of the wrist whilst retaining its structural integrity.

  6. Color Variation: Saddle leather's coloration varies depending on the tanning technique employed, offering a spectrum ranging from darker to lighter hues, adding to its visual allure.

These characteristics collectively elevate saddle leather to a highly coveted material, prized for its unparalleled combination of strength, durability, and aesthetic charm which puts it right at the top of the various types of leather sutable for high strade watch straps.
