DESCRIPTION
Historical Background
In 2007, MWC officially discontinued this watch. However, an unexpected rediscovery led to its revival.
An MWC distributor in Australia uncovered 500 brand-new quartz versions of this watch in their storeroom. These watches, produced between 1999 and 2001, were part of a procurement contract but were overlooked in final delivery. Upon the retirement of the owner’s father, a detailed stock check revealed them. MWC repurchased these watches, which quickly sold out.
Due to high demand, we decided to recreate this model with modern upgrades while preserving its original aesthetics and military functionality.
Key Upgrades & Features
✔ Automatic Movement: The original quartz movement was replaced with a Miyota 8315 automatic movement, featuring a 60-hour power reserve—a significant upgrade from watches 20 years ago.
✔ Sapphire Crystal: The hardened mineral glass has been upgraded to sapphire crystal, which is highly scratch and shatter resistant.
✔ 120-Click Bezel: The original 60 or 90-click bezels were replaced with a 120-click unidirectional bezel for improved precision.
Swiss Case Design & Military Heritage
This watch is built using a case design originally made by Swiss case manufacturer MRP S.A., a respected company in the industry since 1953. This same case design has been used in various military watches over the years, including models by:
- Precista
- Nilax
- Elvia
- Heuer (predecessor to TAG Heuer – used this case in the 1979 Heuer 844-1 model)
- Chronosport (produced the Sea Quartz 30, worn by Tom Selleck in Magnum P.I.)
- CWC (who still use this case design today)
This case pattern has been in continuous production for over 40 years, proving its durability and historical significance.
British MOD Specification
The design of this MWC diver’s watch follows the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) specification, ensuring it meets military-grade standards.
It measures 45mm including the crown and 40mm excluding the crown, and comes with a 20mm military nylon webbing strap, allowing for easy customization with NATO straps.
Why Choose Sapphire Crystal?
Many customers ask why sapphire crystal is superior to standard mineral glass.
✔ Exceptional Durability: Sapphire is highly scratch-resistant and shatter-resistant, making it ideal for military personnel, police officers, and outdoor enthusiasts—who make up over 70% of our customers.
✔ Superior Impact Resistance: Over 90% of cracked crystals in watches are mineral glass. Even hardened mineral glass cannot match sapphire's durability.
✔ Anti-Reflective Coating: Heat-treated sapphire undergoes stress removal to enhance strength. It is then coated with two layers of anti-reflective coating for optimal clarity.
✔ Premium Quality: Sapphire crystal is used in high-end watches and even on the latest iPhones due to its superior durability.
While sapphire increases the cost, its strength, longevity, and clarity make it the best choice for serious users.
The MWC 300m/1000ft Automatic Diver’s Watch is a modern classic, blending historical military design with cutting-edge materials and technology.
