This recreation is closely based on the original World War Two design from 1943 but with modern enhancements. It is now equipped with a high-performance 24-jewel self-winding mechanical movement and features an upgraded box sapphire crystal. This crystal is both shatter and scratch-resistant, yet visually identical to the plexiglass crystals used during the Second World War.

During WWII, these watches were produced by various manufacturers, including Elgin, Bulova, and Waltham, following a US government specification. This particular model closely resembles the Elgin 539, which used a 15 or 16-jewel movement and was made for the USAAF between 1940 and 1945. While the original watches were made from plated base metal to conserve steel, this modern recreation is constructed from solid stainless steel, ensuring much greater durability than the originals.

DESCRIPTION

This recreation came about after a US veterans association approached us in January 2009, requesting the production of a watch identical in appearance to the original GG-W-113 models from the Vietnam War. After successfully creating that watch, they asked us to recreate an even earlier model from WWII. These original watches are now incredibly rare and difficult to find in good condition, largely because most were made from 1943 onwards using lower-quality metals due to resource shortages during the war.
